THEY MAKE SIX MASSIVE MISTAKES
They are 20th Century politicians weaned on 19th Century dogma unprepared for a dramatically different, fast changing 21st Century?
Their Academic elite blinds them to what most people actually want. They’re totally egocentric. They still work out yesterday’s dreams in the libraries of their shuttered minds, not in the real, extraordinarily complex, fast changing, exciting – if you can keep up with it – and totally unpredictable new world with real people who want something entirely different.
They think that everyone else wants or should want what they want, and they project for others what they want for themselves when millions of others have entirely different needs and totally different aspirations.
VERY CLEVER THEY MAY BE, STREET-WISE DEFINITELY NOT.
HERE ARE SIX WAYS THEY GO BADLY WRONG
1. They keep talking about EQUALITY mainly appealing to the have-nots in Society but, as I keep saying, Equality is NOT always fair<click> and Equality before the Law is a mirage.
“People are equal only sometimes, unequal most times, different always.”
MOST PEOPLE DON’T WANT TO BE EQUAL – THEY WANT TO BE DIFFERENT!THAT’S THE WAY THEY WERE BORN – TOTALLY EQUAL ONLY IN THE GRAVE! – IN HEAVEN, WHO KNOWS?
Yes, Equality in the polling booth, on the pavement, or in a bus. Yes, Equal pay for equal work. Yes, an Equal Right to pray to your own God in peace (high time this was recognised in the Middle East), but after that Fair Play is what you should ask for, not Equality.
EQUALITY? They forget its bloody provenance in the French Revolution (Egalité) with the Terror, in the Russian Revolution – the Gulag, after the Long March in China – the Purge. Millions dead or impoverished. They airbrush from their memories Robespierre, Lenin, Stalin, Mao and the writing of Orwell and Koestler who saw it all.
Thus they for ever raise people’s hopes only later to dash them.
FAIR PLAY – BEING FAIR TO ALL- SHOULD BE THE BASIS FOR SOCIAL REFORM. This has a universal appeal to the “haves”, the “have-nots” and those who “aspire to have.” This goes with grain of British history, not Egalité. Egalité isn’t cool these days in the UK. Fraternité in the Labour Party decidedly uncool.
TODAY SALARY DIFFERENTIALS IN OUR CORPORATIST STATE SHOULD BE FAIR. TODAYTHEY ARE OBSCENE. BUT EQUALITY?HO HO!
2. THEIR HUMAN RIGHTS LAWYERS LIVE IN LA LA LAND
And, by the way, the pay there is very good indeed!
They believe that every Human Right, once you have established it by Law, it is absolute. So, when it comes to a social problem, once you have established a human right, you have cracked the problem. HO HO!
THAT IS A MASSIVE MISTAKE.
A few Human Rights are today deemed to be Absolute, yes, the right to vote, the right to equal work for equal pay – though you still have to work for it, the right to walk on the pavement or in a bus with other people regardless of race, colour or religion, the right to pray to your own God in peace. I say they are absolute but they are not always respected worldwide and they still have to be fought for and asserted.
Most Human Rights are not Absolute. They are Relative. Others have their rights that conflict with them.
Sorry, you cyclists, you do not have an unqualified right to cycle on the road regardless of everyone else and how so ever you please.
You can see this when you read what I write about cyclists, motorists, lorry and bus drivers, bus drivers and their passengers, police, fire brigade and ambulance drivers and pedestrians, all with different needs on narrow, twisting and congested roads in UK towns and cities, and on narrow winding country lanes too.
ALL HAVE THEIR RIGHTS BUT THEY ARE DIFFERENT RIGHTS
See this again when you read what I write about the multiplicity of children’s’ needs, children with special needs, some physical, some emotional, some with profound learning difficulties, some gifted and talented, some academically endowed, some with practical skills, some musical or artistic, some athletic, some just kids wanting not equality of opportunity to go to Oxbridge, just opportunity with the life skills to grasp it.
THEY TOO ALL HAVE RIGHTS BUT THEY ARE DIFFERENT RIGHTS.
Only a week ago a retired primary school head teacher who received a national lifetime teaching award told me that boys and girls at the age of 5 or 6 had different learning needs and boys’ education was being seriously prejudiced by not recognising this. Gender difference not gender equality here!
THE ROLE OF THE STATE IS NOT TO CREATE RIGHTS IT IS TO MEDIATE THEM – HUMAN RIGHTS LAWYERS, PLEASE NOTE.
That’s the reason why they raise people’s hopes only to dash them, while they pocket the dosh!
3.They argue with wrong quick-fix sound bites in a very complex, diverse world where no-one owes us a living. Anti-austerity. Hurray. for Prosperity. Hurray! Funded by more taxes or borrowing. Hurray. We don’t pay. And Equality. I keep saying “We are equal only sometimes, unequal most times, different always.” They avoid sound bites like Responsibility, Accountability, Integrity, Fair Play and they don’t look for ways to energise individual enterprise and initiative in a highly competitive world. They label excellence “elitism” and see it as unequal. It is unequal, but anyone can aspire to it. It’s in the mind and comes from the heart, for instance those in Team GB who won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in the Rio Olympics.
4. They believe that “OUR State” is basically wholesome, well intentioned and benign – A fairy godmother – HO! HO! *
and “the BOSS’S private enterprise and profit” is basically foul, exploitative and corrupt.
These characteristics are in fact totally interchangeable because people are people – fallible It is a great pity that Karl Marx didn’t go to bed with Sigmund Freud or with any of the authors of the Chaos Theory – Das Kapital would have been stillborn.
The Left colludes in disabling the checks and balances in the State because they enable people to interfere with the exercise of State power and it gives the game away if this exposes bureaucratic ineptitude and corruption. The health and safety of our Democracy depends on checks and balances being in full working order. I believe that today the Local Government Ombudsman serves the State not the citizen. <watch this space> and those who work for the State can be corrupted by power every bit as much as those corrupted by money in the private sector.
5. To promote social mobility they want to homogenise everyone from cradle to grave.
Their “one size fits all” education policy dumbs people down. Instead they should drive UP standards and boost unequal success. And they enslave students with debt. The supreme irony -. In the UK’s Labour Party today MEDIOCRITY RULES.
6. THEY ARE AUSTERITY DENIERS AND AMNESIACS – FORGETTING ROLE OF NAUGHTY POWER-SEEKING POLITICIANS OF LEFT AS WELL AS RIGHT IN 2008 CREDIT CRUNCH – JUST BLAMING NAUGHTY BANKERS HO! HO! THEY BELIEVE THAT MONEY IS WHERE YOU NEED IT. Wouldn’t it be nice if money grew on Rhododendrum trees? But, but, but you EARN IT <do they forget that?> and you either BORROW IT and let future generations pay or you PRINT MONEY ELECTRONICALLY. As long as QE just refills banks’ coffers no great harm other than clobbering savers and pension funds < we will soon hit the limit here> – but billions of £s going into circulation will lead to hyper-inflation, at its worst in Weimar Germany when the mark lost all its value, or a return to high interest rates to head that off.
Either way future generations will be impoverished or us very soon.
In short, the Left’s dogma promotes “EQUALITY IN DEPRIVATION” and with it SOCIAL IM-MOBILITY
If all students can’t have bursaries and scholarships, no students should get them, and certainly not those gifted and talented – if all children can’t access Grammar Schools no children should access them <mine was in Labour heartland, Sunderland> – if the purpose of education is just equality of opportunity to go to University and get a degree, then devalue lesser or different qualifications that are not equal to a degree and the students who earn them, For years they have totally ignored the needs of half the school population that don’t go to University instead of giving them the life skills for the jobs that immigrants apply for.
The Times on Monday 1 August page 15 reported: “Most graduates find University does not pay off.” Thus EQUALITY IN DEPRIVATION.
The Guardian recently reported: “Home ownership across in England reached a peak in April 2003 when 71% of households owned their own homes, either outright of with a mortgage, but by February this year the figure had fallen to 64%.” House prices and student debt are key factors that make home ownership less attainable without parental assistance. Thus EQUALITY IN DEPRIVATION
MASS PRODUCE MONEY AND CLOBBER SAVERS AND PENSION FUNDS.
EQUALITY BEFORE THE LAW AND HUMAN RIGHTS! HO HO! PITCH THE CITIZEN AGAINST THE STATE IN A TRIBUNAL, OR AGAINST THE LOCAL COUNCIL THROUGH THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT OMBUDSMAN, OR AGAINST A LARGE COMPANY LIKE AN INSURANCE COMPANY. THE LAW IS SLOW, EXPENSIVE, UNHELPFUL AND OUT OF REACH.
WHY DOESN’T THE LEFT GET REAL?
