This post argues for a tax on land values. Today’s Times, November 7 argued for a tax on accumulated wealth as against a 50p in £ tax band. Same thing. If you divide the country between “haves” and “have-nots”, unlike VAT it is a tax on “haves”, but before the “haves” protest here’s a thought for them. It is the one tax they can see as in investment. If the revenue it generates helps to bring back growth, it will add to the value of their land and, by its very nature, it will encourage it. Why are we waiting?
